Fòs Feminista responde a la ampliación de la Ley Mordaza Global en enero de 2026
Nueva York, NY — Fòs Feminista responds to the United States Government’s January 23, 2026 announcement expanding the Mexico City Policy, commonly known as the Global Gag Rule, by extending its restrictions across a broader range of U.S. foreign assistance and organizations working internationally. The announcement comes amid broader shifts in U.S. engagement with global health institutions, including the recent notification of the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization.
Giselle Carino, Chief Executive Officer, Fòs Feminista:
“By extending restrictions across broader funding streams and introducing new limits related to gender inclusion and diversity and equity, this decision compounds the damage already caused by the rollback of U.S. sexual and reproductive health and rights funding and policies. In doing so, the policy carries forward domestic attacks on gender inclusion and diversity, equity, and inclusion into foreign assistance, undermining the autonomy and sovereignty of countries and communities in the Global South to define their own health priorities.
“Our partners are often closest to the people most affected. When their work is constrained, the consequences are felt immediately, in delayed care, reduced access to services, and lost opportunities to share accurate, lifesaving information. The burden falls hardest on women, adolescents, and marginalized communities.
“What our partners need now is resources that respect local leadership and context. Fòs Feminista will continue to work with them to ensure that all people—especially those most marginalized and systematically excluded—can access lifesaving sexual and reproductive healthcare.”

Fòs Feminista is an international feminist alliance advancing sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice. Together with more than 180 partners and allies across over 35 countries, we work to expand access to rights-based, gender-inclusive care and to strengthen locally led health systems and movements.
Our work spans healthcare delivery, policy advocacy, and movement-building. In partnership with local organizations, we support access to contraception, abortion care where legal, comprehensive sexuality education, and services for survivors of gender-based violence. We also invest in community-based strategies that respond to local contexts and reach those most often excluded from care.
Fòs Feminista works alongside partners in policy spaces, courts, and communities to protect bodily autonomy, advance equity, and defend human rights. Our approach centers local leadership, evidence, and dignity, recognizing that sustainable progress depends on flexible resources, strong partnerships, and care without conditions.
