Andrezza – a 28-year-old mother of two living in the Maré favelas in Rio de Janeiro – accessed a free copper IUD after receiving information about contraceptive methods and a referral through the Casa das Mulheres da Maré, an initiative of Fòs Feminista’s partner Redes da Maré.

Tracking progress on law and policy change

From 2023-2024, our advocacy efforts contributed to 190 positive law and policy outcomes that protect sexual and reproductive health and rights.

April 2024, Paraguay

Stronger Protections Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

With support from Fòs Feminista partner CEPEP, Paraguay’s Senate amended the national law on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The reform created new safeguards for women, including a national hotline for reporting abuse.

May 2025, Mexico

Abortion Decriminalization Expands Nationwide

Since Mexico’s 2021 Supreme Court ruling against criminalization, Fòs Feminista partners have worked state by state to align laws with reproductive rights. In May, Tabasco became the 24th state to codify abortion decriminalization, strengthening the green wave for abortion rights.

February 2024, Kenya

Protecting adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health

Fòs Feminista partner TICAH stopped a harmful government policy that threatened adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Their action protected young people—especially girls and young women—from regressive restrictions on care and rights.
