Rewan Youssif

Rewan is a medical doctor with an MSc in public health for development with extensive experience and interest in global health. She has always been passionate about women’s empowerment, the advancement of women’s rights, gender equality, and ending sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and for more than eight years has provided technical support and contributed to strategy development and high-level advocacy on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), SGBV, gender equality, HIV/AIDS, adolescent health, and youth development. Rewan has been a Fòs Feminista Board Director since 2021 and is a member of its Partnership & Performance Committee. 

Currently, Rewan serves as a Technical Analyst for Youth Policy Participation and Leadership at the SRH Branch at UNFPA HQ where she supports the UNFPA Strategy on Adolescents and Youth, especially advocating for youth participation, supporting youth advocates, and providing technical and financial support for youth organizations. Prior to this appointment, she led the design and implementation of continental programs on SRHR, SGBV, and Mental Health for Young People in Africa at the Youth Division of the African Union Commission – Health and Wellbeing Unit. She also developed the Adolescent Pregnancy and Youth Parenthood – SRHR Program Model Scoping for Plan International in a consulting capacity. 

In the past, Rewan served as National Officer on Sexual and Reproductive Health Including HIV/AIDS at the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) and as Program Officer of The Girl Generation Program. Between 2016 and 2018, working as a consultant with CARE International in Egypt, she facilitated health awareness sessions and training on sexual and gender-based violence for Syrian, Sudanese, and Yemeni Refugees in Egypt. The sessions focused on female genital mutilation/cutting and child marriage. 

Rewan was one of the founding members of the National Youth Advocacy Taskforce for Development. This informal group worked closely with the National Population Council in Egypt to formulate and adopt the National Population and Reproductive Health Strategies. In 2019, she also co-founded the first Regional Youth Network on HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Middle East and North Africa, an effort supported by UNAIDS, UNDP, and the WHO. She currently acts as the Regional Coordinator of this network. Additionally, she serves as a Board Trustee for the Orchid Project, a UK-based NGO catalyzing the global movement to end Female Genital Cutting (FGM/C).
