Abortion has been decriminalized in Mexico City and more than half of Mexican states
Following Mexico’s 2021 and 2023 Supreme Court decisions that declared criminalization of abortion unconstitutional and removed all federal penalties for abortion, respectively, Fòs Feminista’s ecosystem of partners are pressing local governments
to fully implement these decisions.
GIRE is advancing a country-wide legal strategy, in collaboration with Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir-Mexico, to demand that abortion is removed from state-level penal codes. Along with Equidad de Género, Mano Vuelta and other local allies, our partners are holding local governments accountable to providing legal abortion care.
