This would make Chile the first country in Latin America to directly incorporate language related to abortion in its Constitution.\n\nThe enshrinement of this right in the new Chilean constitution will not immediately open the possibility for women and pregnant people to end their pregnancies since the text, once fully drafted, must be approved by the majority of the population through a referendum. Subsequently, Chile\u2019s congress would have to approve a law that would enable the exercise of legal abortion, beyond the three grounds that are currently recognized in the country\u2014risk to the life of the mother, fetal non-viability, and rape.\n\nIn response to the Chilean Constitutional Convention\u2019s decision, Giselle Carino, Chief Executive Officer of F\u00f2s Feminista, issued the following statement:\n<blockquote>Cette avanc\u00e9e pour l'autonomie corporelle au Chili s'ajoute \u00e0 la vague de victoires en Am\u00e9rique latine qui a d\u00e9but\u00e9 avec la d\u00e9p\u00e9nalisation de l'avortement en Argentine fin 2020, suivie de la d\u00e9p\u00e9nalisation au Mexique en 2021, et de la d\u00e9cision de la Cour constitutionnelle de Colombie d\u00e9but 2022. Le r\u00f4le jou\u00e9 par la mobilisation f\u00e9ministe \u00e0 travers la vague verte dans toutes ces victoires a \u00e9t\u00e9 essentiel.<\/blockquote>\nSi F\u00f2s Feminista se r\u00e9jouit de cette nouvelle avanc\u00e9e en mati\u00e8re de droits \u00e0 l'avortement, elle reconna\u00eet qu'il reste encore du travail \u00e0 faire. Dans plusieurs \u00c9tats am\u00e9ricains, nous constatons des reculs pr\u00e9occupants en mati\u00e8re de droits \u00e0 l'avortement.
