This International Day of Families, we imagine a dinner table where everyone has a voice. Where a daughter can talk about consent, a son can express emotion without shame, and any young person can ask questions freely. Where parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunties can listen without judgment and share stories that make space for growth and mutual learning. Because when families talk openly about gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights, they create homes that are not just safe but deeply connected. In many places, these conversations are still difficult, but they are powerful. They break cycles of silence, dismantle harmful norms, and bring families closer.
At Fòs Feminista, we believe that embracing gender equality and human rights in the family is key to making all family members feel accepted, supported, and truly cared for. We celebrate every household—regardless of size, shape, or structure—that nurtures respect, equality and dignity. The same values that make families stronger must guide laws and programs that affect us. This International Day of Families, we call for policies that recognize the diverse realities of families and support everyone’s rights to access healthcare, education, and social protection because calls made in halls of power echo back into our homes.
Wherever decisions are made, whether at the policy table or the dinner table: gender equality and human rights are essential #ForAllFamilies.
